Our Mission

Where Buddhism and leftist traditions meet, there is fertile ground for the liberation of all beings from suffering – both of body and of mind. The Revolutionary Buddhist League, our purposeful community, is focused on the cultivation of ideas that promote this horizon of prosperity and understanding. We seek to provide a space where dhamma practice can meet revolutionary praxis.

To that end, we express our full support for mutual aid, direct action, and solidarity with all oppressed peoples both in the United States and around the world. We seek to work alongside others in the struggle against capitalism and empire, challenging the forces in power that only pay lip service to their visions of progress and equality. The League is a place for us to meet in harmony and leave in harmony, each time strengthened by our commitment to end suffering.

As the flaming sword of Manjushri cuts through ignorance and self-concepts, we must confront all barriers to our collective wisdom and clear understanding. We must be vocal not only about the lies we tell ourselves, but also about the deception that causes our society to do nothing about the obstacles that we face. We are revolutionary because Buddhism has been co-opted by neoliberalism and fascism to create passive and docile masses. We are revolutionary because the urgency of the moment calls us to be.

We seek the deepest roots so that we may remedy what ails the mind, body, and world at large. We are not satisfied with enlightenment for the individual – we seek a revolution of structures and ethics that will liberate us all.
